CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA
Established shortly after World War II, Christ Episcopal Church has long served as the nucleus of the Ponte Vedra community, providing a venue for education, athletics, church and multiple community outreach missions. There were several outdated facilities scattered throughout the campus in which diverse functions were held. Many of these spaces were the same size, lacked technological solutions, and were incompatible with how people organically shuffled from one activity to the next. Depending on the event, meeting spaces risked being uncomfortably packed or awkwardly large.
Campus wayfinding and security had been a challenge for the church due to the addition of buildings through the years without a comprehensive master plan. ELM worked together with Christ Episcopal Church in creating a master plan for the neighborhood campus, resulting in improved vehicular and pedestrian access throughout the campus. The program requirements for the site included wayfinding improvements, updates to and creation of additional exterior gathering places, and removal and replacement of interior program space. Along with the site improvements, ELM designed a complete interior renovation to their existing two story education center. To meet the demands of an expanding congregation, ELM designed Formations, an aptly named and uniquely customized gathering space.
